Capturing Precious Moments: The Ultimate Guide to Your In-Studio Newborn Session

Hello & Welcome

Congratulations on your new little one! I’m so honored to capture this special season for your family. My goal is to make your newborn session relaxing, stress-free, and filled with beautiful memories you’ll treasure forever.

What to Expect in the Studio

Newborn sessions last about 1–2 hours, allowing plenty of time for feedings, diaper changes, and breaks. Everything you need is ready for you in the studio:

  • Newborn wraps, swaddles, props, baskets, headbands, and hats
  • Client Closet with wardrobe options for parents and siblings
  • Comfort amenities like snacks, coffee, drinks, toys for siblings, and cozy seating

All you need to do is arrive and enjoy the experience.

How the Session Flows

Every baby is different, so we’ll go with the flow! If your little one needs a break or an extra snack, we pause and pick up where we left off. Typically, we photograph in this order:

  1. Whole family together
  2. Siblings with baby (siblings are finished after this step!)
  3. Parents with baby → mom & baby → dad & baby
  4. Baby alone (styled with wraps, swaddles, baskets, and props)

This order keeps things smooth, relaxed, and enjoyable for everyone.

Preparing Baby for the Session

A few simple steps help ensure a smooth session:

  • Feed baby right before leaving or once you arrive (a full tummy = a sleepy, content baby!)
  • Dress baby in a zip or snap sleeper (avoid onesies pulled over the head)
  • Bring essentials: diapers, wipes, bottles, pacifier (even if rarely used), and an extra outfit

Outfits Made Simple

The best photos are timeless, simple, and cozy. I recommend:

  • Soft, neutral tones like cream, beige, gray, taupe, or muted pastels
  • Soft textures such as knits, linen, or cotton
  • Comfortable, simple styles that coordinate but don’t match exactly
  • Avoid bold colors, neon tones, busy patterns, logos, or stripes
  • Tip: Start with your own closet first, you may already have the perfect outfits! Some of my favorite finds come from H&M. And if you’d like, you’re welcome to borrow from the studio’s client closet.

Sibling Tips

Bringing older siblings? Here’s how to make it smooth:

  • Pack a snack, toy, or book to keep them happy while waiting
  • We’ll photograph siblings first so they’re done quickly
  • Afterward, they can relax—or even head home if that works best

Final Thoughts

Don’t worry if your baby cries, wiggles, or needs extra breaks—that’s totally normal. I’ll handle the wrapping, soothing, and posing. Your only job? Relax, enjoy your baby, and soak in this once-in-a-lifetime season.

After Your Session

Once your newborn session wraps up, I’ll take care of the rest!

  • Within 4 days, you’ll receive a proofing gallery with all the best images
